Who Do You Say Jesus Is?
Once Jesus was praying in private with his disciples with him and he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others say that one of the prophets from long ago has come back to life.” Then Jesus asked, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah!”
Jesus and his disciples have been in contact with tens of thousands of people who have seen miracles after miracles, and have heard great preaching and teaching. All of this was important to help people see who Jesus really was. We all want to be used by God and do great things and impact a lot of lives. But we often miss important ingredients for success in Ministry: the ingredients of prayer and God’s word. In this account, we see Jesus in action. He’s with his disciples praying while isolated from distractions. At the same time, he’s teaching them God’s truth of who he really is.
Do you want to be used by God to impact lives? Are you willing to set aside time each day to pray and read God’s word? Many Christians aren’t so willing.
Also, Jesus has been in public fulfilling Old Testament prophecies of restoring lives physically and preaching the Good News to the poor. But people have not recognized Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God. But Peter did. This is a game changer! If we really know who Jesus is, then it should transform our lives dramatically and affect every aspect of our lives: how we live, think, act, speak.
Who do you say Jesus is? Do you really believe that he is the Messiah, the Son Of God? And how has he impacted your everyday life? Does it look any different than the “worldly ways” of living? Does it lack the ingredient of Prayer and an investment into God’s word?
Lord, I want to be used by you and I’m willing to take up my cross daily. I’m willing to pray and be in your word. But I want my life to be a testimony to others that you are the Son of God, the Messiah. Use me to help point people to you! In Jesus name, Amen!
