Read Luke 9:12-17
This is Irrational And Doesn’t Make Even An Ounce Of Common Sense.
The crowds of people had followed Jesus to a remote area to be ministered to with preaching and healing. Late afternoon the 12 disciples came to Jesus very concerned about the crowd and said, “Send the crowd away so they can find food and lodging in the surrounding villages.” Jesus replied, “You give them something to eat.”
There was nothing rational about Jesus’s response nor did it even make an ounce of common sense. They had only five loaves of bread and two fish and how would that feed well over 10,000 people?
But Jesus continued with his “irrational” thinking and instructed the 12 to have the people sit in groups of 50. Then Jesus took the food they had and prayed his little prayer of Thanksgiving over the food. What is he thinking? Has Jesus gone mad? He’s giving a blessing over the food as if everybody is getting ready to eat. This is going to be embarrassing and humiliating because common sense says that they only have enough food to feed maybe 20 people, when in fact, there’s over 10,000 waiting to be fed. There’s nothing rational about what Jesus is doing. If I was one of the 12, I’d be shaking my head in embarrassment. There’s absolutely nothing good that’s going to come from this. IT’S IMPOSSIBLE!!!
But Jesus gives a nice little prayer, begins to break the loaves and two fish and then distributing the food to the 12 in order to pass out to the crowd. Jesus kept breaking the food and the 12 kept passing it out until all were fed with 12 baskets of broken pieces left over. WHAT A JAW DROPPING MOMENT!!! A MIRACLE!!!
Have you ever faced a situation that seemed utterly impossible? To have a discussion about Jesus doing a miracle would sound irrational and not make even an ounce of common sense! May I please encourage you to keep praying. Keep anticipating. Keep trusting that God is going to do some kind of miracle. Don’t give up!
