Read Luke 8:22-25
If Jesus Invites You To Go To The Other Side, Then You Are Going To The Other Side.
Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go to the other side of the lake.” So they got into the boat and set out. Jesus basically said we’re going to the other side of the lake. This reminds me when God said to Abraham that it’s through your seed Isaac that redemption will come to All Nations. It reminds me when Abraham told his servants in Genesis 22:5, to stay with the donkey and he and his son Isaac will go over there and worship and they both would return. God promised redemption through the seed of Isaac, and Abraham believed God, so when God told him to offer his son Isaac on the Mount of Mariah, Abraham trusted God not to take Isaac’s life.
That’s the same trust Jesus expected from his disciples when he invited them to go to the other side of the lake. When Jesus said we’re going to the other side of the lake, then that means they’re going to the other side of the lake. It may be a choppy ride, or difficult and hard, but Jesus wanted them to trust him.
God made a promise to us that he would never leave us nor forsake us (Joshua 1:5, Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5). He never said it would be calm sailing. He did say that some days will be difficult but we never go alone. We’re asked, by faith, to trust God that in due time he will calm the Sea of our troubled lives. Jesus rebuked his disciples for acting as if they were going to die and showing no faith. So when God makes a promise that he’ll never leave us nor forsake us, then may we not let our circumstances or hardships suck our joy, faith, trust, nor our confidence from our lives. May we trust him to get us to the other side without being rebuked.
