Read Luke 8:16-18
Am I Living In The Light Of Jesus? Or In Darkness?
Back in the days of Jesus, they didn’t have electric to light up a room, but they had oil lamps that they lit. The obvious purpose was to light up a room so you could see. They didn’t light a lamp and then hide it. It’s purpose was so people could see in the darkness and to think you should light it and then hide it was foolish.
It’s the same with the light of Jesus, we are to be representatives of God’s light / truth. To think that as followers of Jesus we are to hide God’s truth from others is foolish.
Let the light of Jesus expose the sin in our own lives so that we can see properly and repent from our sins. Then, let us become a light for Jesus in a world of darkness so when people see us, they see something different: something beautiful, holy, loving, bold, confident. And when they see us, they are convicted by the spirit of God. Their lives will be convicted by the truth while exposing the sin in their lives. The goal isn’t to belittle others, but to be the Light of Hope to help set others free from the bondage of sin.
Everything hidden from God will be brought to the open, either in our hearts and mind, or in the open for others to see (or both).
Jesus ends with a warning: be careful how you listen to his truth. To those who are attentive and understanding of the truth are those with an open heart. It is those who will be given even more wisdom and insight because they hunger for it. But to the arrogant or stubborn ones who don’t listen, they are trapped in a world of sin and they may have head knowledge of the truth but are not living the truth. They’re lost in darkness and what little bit of knowledge they think they do have will be taken from them. May we pray that they would be broken and see the truth and allow their sin to be exposed and repented from.
Lord help us to live in the light and not in darkness.
