Read Luke 8:1-3
Is It Really That Important?
Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. His 12 disciples were with him along with many women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases. Some of the women were:
– Mary Magdalene from whom seven demons were cast out.
– Joanna, the wife of Chuza (the manager of Herod’s household).
– Susanna and many others.
Each of these women were helping support Jesus out of their own means.
These first three verses blow my mind to see how committed everybody was to getting the Gospel message out. Everybody had to have been so busy because it was SO IMPORTANT to them. What Jesus was doing was reaching lost souls. This was SO IMPORTANT that the 12 disciples followed him so they could become equipped to do the same thing after Jesus would leave the Earth. This was SO IMPORTANT that several women made great sacrifices to follow Jesus and even supported him with their own means. How IMPORTANT is the spreading of the Gospel to me? How far am I willing to travel in order to reach lost souls for Jesus? How Bold am I when it comes to sharing Jesus with others? How many opportunities have I missed to share Jesus with others? When I say, “I am a follower of Jesus,” does my life give evidence of such proclamation? Or is it just mere words? How could my life demonstrate my faith more? How supportive am I of the church so the kingdom of God can be proclaimed more and more? When’s the last time I was in church? When is the last time I got involved in a Ministry? How important is Church Life to me? Am I content with one day a week? Are there other opportunities to get connected, to grow, support physically and financially, to get involved, to get trained and equipped for evangelism or discipleship?
This is hard to think about. I have a lot of questions because I feel like there’s so much more I could be doing!
Dear Lord, I plead with you with all my heart, help me make spreading the gospel more IMPORTANT in my life. Show me how I can present the gospel more with my gifts, with boldness and confidence, within the church and outside the church, in my everyday walk. Help me not miss so many opportunities. Use me more, in Jesus name, Amen.
