I Have A Big Decision To Make! What Do I Do? PRAY!!!!
[12] One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. [13] When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles….
It says here that Jesus called his disciples together. A disciple is someone who follows Jesus and learns and grows from his teachings. It doesn’t say how many disciples/followers he had, but there had to be more than 12. But he called them together then chose 12 of them whom he would invest into their lives, teaching and preparing them for a higher calling: to be apostles. An apostle is someone designated to take the teachings of Jesus, the Gospel, to others. This had to be a huge decision because how do you know who to pick? Which 12 do you choose to invest into? Do you close your eyes and just randomly point at someone? No!
Jesus spent all night praying.
Vs 12 says, “One of those days that Jesus went to the mountainside to pray…” In other words, it was common practice for Jesus to isolate himself and pray and not just for 5 minutes but for long periods of times. On this particular night, before choosing the 12 apostles, he prayed all night! Prayer should be a huge part of our everyday life. We need that prayer time where we are isolated from everyone, and we need that prayer throughout the day when we are surrounded by everyone. We need to be praying people. And I can guarantee that when Jesus was isolated and praying on the mountainside, he was praying for wisdom on which 12 to choose to be apostles.
Do you have a big decision to make! Get alone with God and pray. And pray often!
