Read Luke 4:40-41
It’s Late!
It was at sunset when people began to bring Jesus those with various kinds of diseases. He would lay his hands on each one and heal them. He even cast out demons from many people.
What are your daily routines like? After long day of work or busy activities, what do you look forward to when evening comes? Relaxing? Sitting in a recliner or laying on the couch? Watching your favorite TV show? Perhaps reading a good book? Maybe playing a fun game with a family member.
It’s evening! It’s late! But what if your time of relaxation was interrupted with someone in need? Who was hurting and needed to talk, or needed a ride to the ER. Does that excite you or does it cause anxiety? Do you look at your watch in disgust thinking “It’s late!”
It was sunset when people began to bring their sick to Jesus who ended up healing them. I’m sure Jesus encountered needs that popped up at the most inconvenient time.
But what is time? Who created it? What’s its purpose? God created time. It belongs to him. He asked for us to give him time. Time for prayer. Time for reading Scripture. Time for fellowship. Time for family. Time for work. Time for acts of service. Time for meeting needs even at the most inconvenient times.
When God opens the door for us to help someone in need, even at an inconvenient time, do we do so in obedience? Sometimes we need to make necessary sacrifices to help others, and do so with a joyful heart, and see it as an honor to fulfill what time God ordained for us in meeting a specific need. Even if “It’s Late.”
