Read Luke 3:14
Day 1: Don’t Extort Money.
As some soldiers were coming to John to be baptized, they were challenged by John to repent. Some of the soldiers asked, “What should we do?” John replied:
“Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.”
Soldiers are in a position of power and some, or many, we’re using their power for selfish gain. They became arrogant which resulted in them extorting money from others. They would coerce people to give them what they wanted. John was telling them to make honest and ethical decisions while being men of Integrity. Learn to be content with what you have so you don’t make it your god.
If you are in a position of authority, do you use your power as a means of giving yourself special benefits that are unethical and dishonest? Do you display behaviors that you wouldn’t want your employees to follow? Or display behaviors that you wouldn’t want your children or family members to follow? Remember, when in a position of authority you must lead by example. If you want honest employees or family members, then lead with honesty and be a person of integrity. Remember, you reap what you sow. If you plant seeds of dishonesty and poor decisions, you’ll reap people who do the very same thing.
