Read Luke 24:36-49
Okay Then, Let’s Get To Work!
While the disciples were talking with the two men about their experience with Jesus on the road to Emmaus, Jesus appeared in their midst. He said, “Peace be with you.” They were startled and frightened thinking they saw a ghost. So Jesus did the following to ensure that he had truly risen from the dead and was not a ghost:
1. He showed his hands and feet where the scars were.
2. He showed that he was flesh and bones.
3. He had them give him something to eat.
Jesus told them that what had happened to him was what he had been telling them all along. He had to fulfill everything written about him in the Law and Prophets, and the Psalms. Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scripture:
1. The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.
2. Repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to All Nations.
3. They will be empowered by the Holy Spirit and will take the good news of Jesus to the world.
I find it comforting to know that in amongst the world of doubt, Jesus’s greeting words were “Peace Be With You.” The Lord doesn’t want us living in doubt, feeling as if there’s no hope for tomorrow. He wants us to have peace amongst chaos because we know that there’s hope through Jesus.
The disciples got to see Jesus in real life. They got to touch him. That was the only way Thomas would believe is if he was able to see and touch Jesus. Jesus said to Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed. But blessed are those who have not seen and yet still believe.” We don’t have the luxury of seeing and believing, but we have the testimony of those who have gone before us, along with the Scriptures which give us Hope and Truth.
We also have the joy of being empowered by the Holy Spirit to take the good news to the world.
Knowing this, what are we waiting for? Let’s get to work doing what God has called us to do: Holy Living and Sharing The Good News To The World.
