Read Luke 22:39-46
I Can’t Do This Anymore!
Vs 39 says: “Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. In reaching the place, Jesus said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” Jesus knew he would soon be arrested and that all of the power of the devil and his angels would be at work to destroy Jesus and scatter the followers of Jesus in order to break all the bonds between God and his followers.
The thought of giving his life and the anticipation of what that would entail, brought much anguish. So much so, that Jesus prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me [the anticipated cup of suffering], yet not my will, but yours be done.”
Jesus realized how necessary it was to go through hard situations in order to accomplish God’s bigger plan. In Jesus’s case it was the salvation for the world. Jesus was able to say to his father “Not my will, but yours be done.” It was then that an angel from heaven appeared to Jesus and strengthened him.
Let’s stop here for a second. What hardships and battles are you facing today. I’ve heard people say something very similar when they faced hardships and challenges in life: “I can’t do this anymore!!” Jesus understands your feelings, a lot more than you think. He was in so much anguish that his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. This is a real thing that can happen. It is called: HEMATOHIDROSIS and it is when Intense stress causes the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) that feed the sweat glands to rupture. This allows blood to enter the sweat ducts and emerge onto the skin.
So Jesus understands your pain and understands the desire for it to stop and be removed. But just as it was necessary for him to go through this whole process in order to accomplish God’s greater plan and outcome, so he may call us to go through something that we don’t want to go through. But it is necessary in order to accomplish God’s greater plan and outcome.
And just as God strengthened Jesus, so he will strengthen you.
