Read Luke 2:21-24
It’s Never Too Late!
Days after Jesus’s birth, Mary and Joseph followed the custom of the Law of Moses.
1. They followed the law of Moses that said a son had to be circumcised eight days after birth.
2. They followed the Law of Moses that said a woman had to be purified within so many days after giving birth to a child because they were considered unclean.
3. They followed the law of Moses when they dedicated their firstborn son, Jesus, to the Lord for God’s work and service.
4. They followed the Law of Moses by sacrificing 2 doves or 2 young pigeons for the purification of the woman and the redemption of their son.
Mary and Joseph were obedient to God and wanted to ensure they raised Jesus up in the ways of the Lord.
1. As followers of Christ we are PURIFIED by the blood of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. He not only makes us holy but he calls us to walk in holiness with the help of the Holy Spirit.
2. As followers of Christ he wants us to dedicate our lives, and the lives of our children, to the Lord for his work and his service. This is more than just taking them to church or praying over your meals. It’s a lifetime commitment for us and for our children. It’s taking up our cross daily before the Lord saying not my will but your will be done. It’s saying goodbye to the worldly pleasures and grasping a hold of the things of the Spirit. It’s doing God’s work. It means everything you do and say you want to be done for the glory of God.
Have you accepted Christ in your life for the forgiveness of your sins? Have you dedicated your life to the Lord so you can do his work and fulfill the purpose he has for you? Have you dedicated the lives of your children to the Lord in hopes of them following the ways of the Lord?
If you haven’t, it’s never too late. Do it today. Then let your life of Christ be seen by your children and those around you as a role model for them to follow.
There are always going to be those who WILL follow you no matter what you do. Make your life count for Christ and let them follow Christ in you rather than follow a life that’s missing Christ.
