Read Luke 21:37-38
Are we REALLY like Jesus?
There are three parts to these two verses:
1. Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple.
2. Each evening Jesus went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives.
3. All the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.
Let me expound on these three points and see if we’re REALLY like Jesus.
1. Jesus was all about doing the work of his Father. He was taking advantage of every opportunity to share the good news of the Kingdom of Heaven. That should be our heart and attitude each and every day. In order to do so, we have to quit thinking that this world is ALL about us: OUR job, OUR money, OUR friends, OUR future, etc. Don’t get me wrong, all these things are important but it’s not why we are here on earth. Earth is our temporary home. God has a home we are to be busy working toward. It starts with a relationship with Jesus and that relationship should be what we want others to experience. So my job is important not because I want to make a lot of money, but because it’s my mission field. I want God to use me in my job so I can impact lives for God’s kingdom. This is the heart and attitude we need in every aspect of our lives. For example, I love my family and enjoy being with my family. But my family is also my mission field. How can I live my life in helping point my family to Jesus? How can I role model that for them? Can you imagine how many lives would be impacted for Jesus if we carry that heart and attitude in every aspect of our lives?
2. Jesus was also all about getting alone to rest and spend time with God In Prayer and the reading of the Scriptures. Is that a priority for us? If it isn’t, then I would assume that Ministry isn’t happening to the fullest potential that God has for us.
3. Just as people came early in the morning to hear Jesus preach, so we should be a light to those around us so that when they see us, they want to be around us because of how we love and treat them (without compromising God’s Truth).
