Read Luke 21:1-4
Don’t Hold On So Tightly To The Things Of This World!
Jesus, while with his disciples, saw the rich people putting their gifts into the temple treasury. And he saw a widow put in 2 very small copper coins. The two copper coins would be less than 2% of a day’s wages. What she put in was far less than what the rich people put in. Yet, Jesus said to His disciples, “The poor widow put in more than all the others.” How is that possible? Because Jesus said the rich gave out of their wealth. They took from their surplus and gave to the Lord. It may have been a lot of money but it was still out of their surplus so it wasn’t much of a sacrifice. They made sure they kept a hold of what they wanted to keep for themselves. The widow, however, put in all she had, a huge sacrifice!
I’m not saying on Sunday mornings God wants us to put all the money we have into the offering plate. I do believe we should give sacrificially. So what we don’t put in the offering plate, we need to hold on to it very carefully. We must always remember it still belongs to the Lord and we never know when God will impress us to give a portion of what we are holding on to. So Don’t Hold On So Tightly To The Things Of This World!
I don’t think God is talking just about our money, but he’s also talking about our whole lives. He’s talking about our relationships, our money, our time, our possessions, and even our lives. Lord help us not to hold on to things so tightly in this world that we SELFISHLY hold on to it versus SACRIFICIALLY letting go of it.
Lord, reveal to us the things of this world that we have not yet let go of for your purpose.
