Read Luke 20:9-19
Does My Life Point People To Jesus, Or Not?
Jesus tells the parable of a man who planted a vineyard, and rented it to the farmers and then went away for a long time. At harvest time, he sent a servant to the tenants so they could give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. Instead, they beat the servant and sent him away empty handed. Three times the vineyard owner sent a servant and all three times they beat them and sent them shamefully away with no fruit.
The owner was beside himself, not sure what to do, so he decided to send his son whom he loved thinking they would respect him. However, they killed the son thinking they would get the son’s inheritance.
Jesus asked what would happen to the tenants? He said the owner will come and kill them and give his vineyard to others.
Jesus told this parable against the religious leaders because:
1. They were constantly against Jesus, God’s son, and were always looking for ways to kill him.
2. Their faith was more on what they could get from God versus what they could give of themselves for God and for the church.
3. They rejected Jesus who was the Cornerstone to the coming Church.
The religious leaders believed in God but rejected what God was doing. They rejected Jesus, God’s son. And they rejected the coming Church that would receive God’s inheritance and follow Jesus.
Do you believe in God? Do you believe in God Son, Jesus? Do you believe in the work that we the church are to be doing? Do you believe just in your mind or with your whole heart? Do you verbally profess a faith, but your life contradicts your faith and even hurts what God is wanting to do through you? Lord help us all profess our Faith with more than just mere words but with our whole hearts so that all we do and say helps point people to Jesus and not away from Jesus. May our Life choices only reinforce our faith. Does my life point people to Jesus or away from Jesus?
