Read Luke 20:41-44. Jesus, Both Human And God.
Jesus sparks a challenging and thought provoking conversation with the religious leaders. He asks, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the Son of David?” It was prophesied in Scripture that the Messiah would come through the lineage of Abraham and David. In fact Matthew 1:1 says, “A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
This is important to know that Jesus came from the genealogy of David and Abraham for it gives proof that he is the Messiah because it was prophesied that he would come from their lineage. However, it’s even more important to know that Jesus is the Son of God. We can’t just look at Jesus as a mere human as if he has no Godly Power, but we must also see Jesus as the Son of God and who is God in human form. Jesus said that David called the Messiah Lord thus knowing he was more than just a human. He was Lord God!
It was important for Jesus to take on human form so that while on Earth he could experience what it means to be human. He experienced every trial, temptation, and hardship that we all face today, but he had victory over all of them and did so without sin. Therefore, because he is also the Son of God, he can, through the Holy Spirit, empower us in our darkest moments and give us victory over any challenge and temptation we face.
But even more than that, because he is the Son of God, he is our Savior and our Hope while on Earth and our hope for what awaits us in heaven for eternity.
We can’t allow ourselves to get fixated on the idea that Jesus was only a human being. And we also cannot let ourselves get fixated on the world and all the trials and tribulations and assume there is no hope. Let us thank Jesus that as a human he understands our pain. More importantly, let us thank him for being the Son of God who can rescue us from any earthly pain and equip us for our heavenly calling.
