Read Luke 20:1-8
I Hate To Admit I Am Wrong.
One day Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the good news. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders, together, came to Jesus asking by what Authority he was doing these things. They asked Jesus, “Who gave you this Authority?” Jesus answered their question with a question. Jesus asked them, “Was John’s baptism from heaven or from human origin?” If they answered “from heaven” then they would actually be answering their question to Jesus, because to say “from heaven” is to say, “It’s God’s Authority that Jesus does these things because it was God’s authority to send John to prepare the way for Jesus, God’s son, the Messiah. But if they answered, “by human origin,” then they would be denying that John the Baptist was a prophet of God. This would, in turn, infuriate the people because they believed that John was a prophet sent by God. It could even result in them wanting to Stone the religious leaders to death. So rather than admit that God sent John the Baptist, they just tell Jesus they don’t know the answer.
It’s crazy! The religious leaders just hated to have to admit that Jesus came from God. Their pride, their hunger for prestige and power blinded them from the truth.
What is it that keeps people, today, from following Jesus? They just can’t bring themselves to admit Jesus is the son of God because if they do, they would have to change their life and people don’t want to change their lives. Some don’t want to change because:
They love living in sin, although they don’t call it sin, they camouflage their sin by saying there’s nothing wrong with how I am living, or they just say they do believe in Jesus and there’s nothing wrong in how I’m living my life.
For others it’s because of pride, or their desire for power, prestige, and money that blinds them of the Truth.
Are we quietly holding on to things in this world that have blinded us from the truth? If so, confront it, confess it, and let It GO.
