Read Luke 18:31-34
I Just Don’t Understand What God Is Doing!
Jesus speaks of his upcoming death and Resurrection for the third time with his disciples. He said, “We are going to Jerusalem and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.” Jesus mentions seven things that will happen to him:
1. They will deliver him over to the Gentiles [the Romans].
2. They will mock him.
3. Insult him,
4. Spit on him,
5. Flog him, and
6. Kill him.
7. Then Jesus says that three days later he will rise from the dead.
It says that the disciples did not understand any of what Jesus said. It’s meaning was hidden from them. They did not know what he was talking about.
The greatest event in history was about to happen and would fulfill what was prophesied a few thousand years before. The truth of what God was doing and going to do was not contingent upon whether or not the disciples understood what God was doing. Think about this, the greatest event in history was going to happen regardless of whether or not the disciples clearly understood what God was talking about.
Apart from Jesus’s death and Resurrection, what are the greatest events going on in your life that consumes you and yet you don’t understand what God is doing or is going to do. It seems he has hidden that from you just like he did the disciples. But your area of concern is very important to God and he has a plan all set for you and your need. The truth of what God is doing and going to do is not contingent upon whether or not you understand his plan. But the fulfillment of the plan is forthcoming. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep believing. Keep the faith.
