Read Luke 17:11-19
Are You Thankful or Thankless?
Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem and has an encounter with 10 men with a skin disease called leprosy. They stood at a distance and cried out, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us.” Jesus responded saying, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” Interesting response because the only reason a leper would go to the priest is if they thought they were healed. But they weren’t healed, yet they went in faith and went as Jesus instructed them to.
It was as they went that they were all healed. Yet, only one of them felt compelled to go back and praise and thank Jesus for his healing power. Even more interesting, the one that went back to praise and thank Jesus was a Samaritan who usually hated Jews and Jews hated them. Yet he was the only one that expressed Thanksgiving.
So how do we respond when God works in and through our lives? How thankful are we? Or do we just expect God to “Do” for us and show no appreciation?!? How much time do we spend praying to God “To Do For Us” and how much time do we spend “Thanking” God for all he does do for us? Compare the two. I preached on this passage before and after the sermon a lady gave me this note which I’ll share with you what it said:
“What if we woke up tomorrow with only the things we were thankful for today?”
Perhaps we need to spend more time saying THANK YOU than saying “Do something for me.” Have a ThankFULL day.
