Read Luke 15:20-24
The Father Receives You Back 100%.
We are still talking about the prodigal son who was selfish and did evil in the eyes of his father, but when he came to his senses and realized his life was in shambles, he returned to the father. While he was headed home in brokenness and humility, his father saw him way off and he was filled with compassion. As a result, he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. Despite all the love that the father lavished on him, the son felt unworthy and said, “I have sinned and I am no longer worthy to be called your son.”
However the father responded by telling his servants to be quick:
1. To get the best robe and put it on him. This was a powerful way of honoring his son back.
2. To put a ring on his finger. Probably a signet ring showing the full restoration of his sonship.
3. Put sandals on his feet, thus symbolizing he’s received back as a son and not one of the servants.
The son’s return was so exciting that the father wanted to celebrate by getting the fattened calf, killing it, and having a great feast.
I pray we can see this parable exactly how God our Father responds towards us every time we sin and return to him in brokenness and humility. He runs to us with compassion and lavishes his love on us. He forgives us even when we declare we aren’t worthy to be called one of his children. But he receives us and restores us back into his family. Plus there’s a great celebration going on. So even if we don’t feel Worthy because it’s something we struggle with over and over again, please know that every time we return in brokenness and humility, he forgives and restores us.
Father, thank you for your forgiveness and receiving me back 100% even though I don’t feel worthy. Help me forgive myself!
