Read Luke 14:7-11
God Exalts The Humble and The Arrogant He Humbles.
Jesus was invited to eat at the house of a prominent Pharisee and he noticed how the guests picked the places of Honor at the table. So he told this parable:
When someone invites you to a wedding feast don’t exalt yourself by taking the place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you was invited. The host, who invited both of you, will come and give the more distinguished person your seat and have you taken to a less distinguished seat. As a result, you are humiliated in front of the others. Instead, when you come in, take a lowly seat so that when the host comes in, he may say to you, “Friend, move up to a better place.” As a result, you are honored before everyone versus being humbled in front of everyone. Jesus said, “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
I have said this several times that nobody likes to be around an arrogant person. People are more often drawn to a humble person because they are people of integrity, unless, of course, they can gain something from the person who is a prominent figure in the community. The person who has everything, who invites people to parties, maybe liked by many, but end up taking advantage of all the free stuff that’s offered, and take away all the glamorous portion, and you’ll find that several of your friends were not real friends because they loved what you possessed more than they loved you.
God is no different. We are all invited to his upcoming banquet and he will humble those who exalted themselves, and exalt those who were humble. God wants us to find our identity in him versus in the acceptance of others who are on earth. People will be more loving and accepting of you when you humbly exalt them and their giftedness versus exalting yourself about them.
Do people see you as a humble person willing to exalt others above yourself? Or do they see you as one exalting yourself as if you are better than others?
