Read Luke 1:39-45
God Calls You Blessed! Where Is Your Joy?
After Mary’s encounter with Gabriel, the angel, she got ready and hurried to the home where Zechariah and Elizabeth lived. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leaped for joy and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit spoke through Elizabeth to Mary, saying,
1. Blessed are you among women!
2. Blessed is the child you will bear!
3. Blessed are you because you believe that the Lord will fulfill his promises to you.
I find this interesting how God allowed Elizabeth to know that Mary would have a very special baby from the Lord before Mary could even tell her. That’s the work of the Holy Spirit. God still works like that today. I’ve seen it and experienced it.
The Holy Spirit knows what’s going on and has a plan for our lives just as he did Mary.
1. He wants to call us blessed which means we are humble servants for the Lord.
2. He wants to say blessed is the work he will do through us! So Lord, help us stay faithful. And lastly
3. He wants to say blessed are you who believe I can fulfill the promises I have for you. So Lord, help me trust you!
And just as Elizabeth and her baby were filled with joy from the Holy Spirit, so he wants us to have joy because we know who we are in Christ, that God is faithful, and God WILL fulfill his promises through us if we but trust him.
Are you a humble servant of the Lord? Guess what? God has a plan for you and for your future because you are called BLESSED and he will fulfill the promises he has made. Trust him even when the going gets tough.
