You Racist!
Some Pharisees came to Jesus to let him know that Herod was wanting to kill him so he should leave. Now, who would have ever thought that some Pharisees would ever show kindness to Jesus? This is a reminder to me that you can’t make generalizations about people or a group of people. For example:
1. Don’t be a racist. A racist looks at the color of one’s skin. If they had a bad experience with a person of a certain color, then some make a generalization that all people of that color are evil.
2. If someone has a bad experience with an evangelist always asking for money on tv, then they may conclude that all pastors are that way.
3. If someone feels very much judged when attending a church, they may conclude that all churches are judgmental.
4. What about mechanics who do car repairs. Or what about lawyers. Be careful not to conclude that there’s no such thing as a good mechanic or a good lawyer.
Our best approach is to look for positive behaviors and then complement one another versus tearing down. Show love and mercy and a little bit of grace. It can go a long way.
A few passages that come to my mind are:
1. Romans 14:1 Accept a person whose Faith is week without passing judgment on disputable matters.
2. Romans 15:2 Each of us should please our neighbor for their good in order to build them up.
3. Romans 12:10 Be devoted to one another and honor one another above yourselves.
