Read Luke 12:4-7
Hey Friend! I’ll Take Care Of You!
As Jesus addresses the crowd of people he calls them, “Friends.” He establishes right away that they are important to him and he cares about them. He is aware of all their emotions and feelings. He knows we are all prone to “Fear” and “Worry.”
So Jesus says, “Friends, don’t be afraid of those who can kill the body and after that can do no more.” You may ask, “Well, what more is there? Once you’re dead, you’re dead. Right? NOOOO! Physical death is the end of our physical body but the beginning of eternity for our souls. Jesus says the one we should be afraid of is the one, who after you are dead physically, has the authority to throw you into hell. Fear Him!”
Jesus is referring to our Heavenly Father but is making a point. The same father who has the power to throw us into hell is the same father who doesn’t want any of us to perish in hell. He does not want us to fear death or live in fear. He wants us to find Hope in a relationship with Jesus who loves us more than we can understand.
Jesus makes the point about sparrows, who are worth next to nothing, but are birds that he is very aware of what happens to each and every one of them. He is even aware of how many hairs we have on our head. And you may ask, what is so important about that? That’s the point, he cares about every aspect of our lives. If he can be concerned for worthless birds and how many hairs we have on our head, then how much more is he going to be concerned about us and our future. He died for us, why will he not live for us?
The Lord doesn’t want us living in fear and worry. We fear and worry about death, about what people say and do to us, about our future, about being abandoned, about rejection and persecution. Jesus is trying to comfort us. Don’t live in fear.
What fears do you live in? What do you worry about. 1st John 4:18 says that “perfect love casts out fear.” Matthew 6:33 says don’t worry!!! Jesus is saying, “Hey friend! I’ll take care of you!”
