Read Luke 12:35-40
Watch! Anticipate! Be Busy! Complacency Is Not An Option.
Jesus tells his disciples about his second coming and compares it to servants waiting for the return of their Master. Just as there would be harsh consequences for the servants who weren’t ready when their Master returned from a wedding banquet, so there will be harsh consequences for those who are not ready when Christ returns.
So what does it mean to be “READY” for Christ’s return?
1. BE DRESSED PROPERLY: Jesus says to be “dressed ready.” Galatians 3:26-27 says that we are “All children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all who were baptized into Christ have clothed themselves with Christ.” To be clothed with Christ means clothed in the righteousness of Christ. In other words, being in Holy Attire! Holiness is our daily goal.
2. BE BUSY AT WORK: We are God’s servants, so we should be found busy doing the work of a servant for the Lord. I just listened to a song that says, God is the “God of our city, and he has greater things yet to come and greater things that are still to be done in our city.” So what are we doing to reach lost souls for Gods Kingdom? Or are we busy with our kingdom?
3. BE WATCHFUL AND ANTICIPATE CHRIST’S RETURN: What’s so significant about being watchful and anticipating Christ’s return? If we are watchful and anticipating, then we are motivated to be faithful to the work God has called us to. Once we lose focus of these two things is when we begin to be complacent with our faith walk. It’s then we lose focus of God’s calling on our lives and begin living according to our will versus God’s will.
If Jesus returned today, how would he find you? As a holy servant? Doing the work of reaching and discipling lost souls? Or will he find that complacency has settled into your hearts and minds? Lord, help me be faithful!
