Read Luke 12:1a
Why All The Excitement!!!!
The first part of verse 1 says, “Meanwhile, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another,….” I’m not a big fan of people trampling on one another, but I have to ask, why were the people so excited to go see Jesus? I’m trying to play this through my mind. I’m thinking of a family hearing about Jesus coming in their area and then getting everyone quickly together so they can go see Jesus. I’m thinking of them wanting to get a front row seat. The closer they get to Jesus, the better!!
A person says to their neighbor, “Hey, did you hear that Jesus is in town. We’re going to see him do you want to go with us?” It’s hard for me to imagine the person responding by saying, “Oh, I don’t know, we’re thinking about going. It depends if I get all my work done around the house first. Plus I want to clean my (car) donkey. He’s been smelling a lot lately. Plus, we were up late last night, so we kind of feel like we should have slept in so we might just stay home and rest. It’s been a long and busy week.”
Noooooooo!!!!!! That’s not what happened at all. The people were full of excitement and couldn’t wait to see Jesus!!
Now my mind goes to the believers of today. Do we have that same excitement? Imagine if we displayed that same excitement when it comes to Sunday school and church. Sunday morning would look so much different. Imagine the parents jumping out of bed and all the kids fighting over the bathroom because they want to get ready for church, while saying, “I can’t wait to see Jesus!” The family is hustling around so fast because each one wants to be ready first. Families end up leaving early because they want a front row seat! They have this hunger and thirst to be close to Jesus! Then having people ALMOST trampling one another as they hurry for the front row pews. Each family member has their Bibles because they can’t wait to jump in the Scriptures at church and Sunday School. Instead of finding excuses not to go to church we are being annoying to one another as we race to get ready for church. Is that an issue for you? Are we one that looks for excuses not to go or are we ones that people look at and say, “Hey, why all the excitement?” And that opens the door for us to say, “We’re going to see Jesus!!! Do you want to go with us?”
