Read Luke 11:5-13
God Wants To Give Us The Best Gift Ever … His Holy Spirit!
After Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, he gave them this parable/illustration: Suppose you have a friend and you go to him at midnight pleading for him to lend you three loaves of bread because a friend of yours arrived from a late trip and you have no food to offer him. However, your neighbor refuses to give you food because it’s late!! But because of your “shameless audacity,” your neighbor gives you the food. (Shameless audacity means one who is bold or brazen and they disregard the inconvenience and offense to others).
Jesus paints this picture and then says to now think of your heavenly father. We are to pray to him for the best gift ever. Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you.” Just as our earthly father wants to give us good gifts, so our heavenly father wants to give us the best gift ever, his Holy Spirit, to everyone who asks, seeks, and knocks for.
Can you imagine a life without the Holy Spirit? We’re lost without him! The Holy Spirit wants to be with us and help us, strengthen us, guide us, encourage us, challenge us, and even discipline us – always with the intent to restore us into a right relationship with God.
Lord, thank you that you want to give us your Holy Spirit for our lives. Help us then be faithful to your calling for our lives, no matter what. If your Holy Spirit calls me for something, help me trust you that you will provide the means to accomplish it through your Holy Spirit.
