It’s Time To Clean Up Our Act.
For the next few days I’ll be talking about some of the “WOES” Jesus said to the Pharisees and experts of the law. When Jesus said, “WOE to you Pharisees” he was giving a prophetic declaration of a forthcoming judgment upon them because of their sin, rebellion, and destructive actions.
One of the Pharisees invited Jesus to eat with him. He noticed right away that Jesus did not wash before eating. Jesus used this as an opportunity to expose the Pharisees’ sin of being more concerned about how one looks on the outside versus on how one looks on the inside. Jesus accused the Pharisees of being full of greed and wickedness and called them foolish people because their hearts were so evil. Jesus told them to be “generous to the poor” and when they did that they would become clean.
The Pharisees were so concerned about their outward appearance that they were neglecting the needs of others. Their focus was so much on self that they were not impacting lives for the kingdom. People’s needs were being neglected.
What are we so occupied with that we end up neglecting the needs of others, and even neglect our own inner spiritual needs? What would Jesus tell us to give up on the Earth so we can become clean spiritually? What friends would he ask us to remove from our lives because they are toxic to our spiritual development? What habits would Jesus tell us to surrender so we can be made white as snow inside? What needs of others would he tell us to be more aware of? The poor, the brokenhearted, the lonely, the widow, the elderly? Let today be the day we clean up our act and start to impact lives for the Kingdom!
