Read Luke 11:29-32
He’s Right In Front Of You!
As the crowds increased, Jesus said to them, “This is a wicked generation. They ask for a sign but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus compares Jonah with himself. Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites who were a very wicked people. They heard the message of God through Jonah and they repented of their evil wicked ways and were restored with God.
The Queen of the South traveled to the ends of the Earth to see and listen to Solomon and all his God-given wisdom. She recognized the greatness of Solomon. Jesus went on to say that when judgment comes to the current generation before him, the Queen of the South will condemn that generation for not recognizing the greatness of Jesus who was before them: the Son of God / the Son of Man / the Chosen One.
The people of Nineveh will also condemn the current generation for not repenting of their sins when Emmanuel, God with Us, Jesus, was right in front of them. Jesus is greater than Jonah and Solomon. He took on our punishment and died in our place so that our sins could be forgiven. If we would but receive this forgiveness by faith in Jesus and follow him.
Is our generation any different? Are we blind or do we see Jesus who’s right in front of us? He’s calling each of us to repent and turn from our sins, and follow him 100% with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Don’t let the things of this world distract you from following Jesus who’s standing right in front of you.
