Read Luke 11:1-4
Prayer Is All About A Relationship!
One day Jesus was praying and when he finished, one of his disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. My kids often saw me doing my devotions in the morning, praying and reading Scripture. I would even pray with them at night, at meals or just through life circumstances. They saw it and experienced it. They saw how important it was to me and thankfully it has become important to them.
The disciples saw how important prayer was to Jesus and they wanted Jesus to teach them how to pray. So Jesus teaches them to say:
1. “Father” [God]: we need to recognize the God we pray to is a relational God. It’s all about a relationship with a loving Father.
2. “Hallowed be your name!” Our Father God is most worthy to be praised and exalted. Only he deserves our greatest praise. May we praise him with our whole life.
3. “Your Kingdom come.” Again, it’s all about a relationship, but he desires this relationship not just with me but with the whole world. May we allow His Holy Spirit to use us to bring his kingdom (Restoration and Salvation) to a lost world.
4. “Give us our daily bread.” May we recognize that God is our Jehovah Jireh, which means our provider. We can trust him to meet our daily needs.
5. “Forgive us and we will forgive others.” It’s the power of forgiveness that restores one with God and restores us with one another. The power of forgiveness restores, sets people free, removes are guilt and shame. Forgiveness is a powerful act of love. May we learn the power of God’s forgiveness and learn the power of learning to forgive others.
6. “Lead us not into temptation.” God does not tempt us. He may test us to see where our faith really is, but the devil is the one who will tempt us. But the good news is found in 1st Corinthians 10:13 which says that when we are tempted God will always provide a way out so that we can stand up under it and find victory.
Lord, help us all learn the benefits and Power of Prayer.
