Read Luke 1:1-4
Whatever Task Is Before Me, I Want To Do It Wholeheartedly.
Luke is said to be a physician who God used to write both the books of Luke and Acts. Luke mentions in verses 1 to 4 how he was very careful to write this gospel account in a precise manner and do so in a chronological order. As a result, he investigated everything from the beginning by what was once said by the first eyewitnesses and from those who were servants of the Lord. Luke was diligent in writing an orderly account for Theophilus so that he may know the certainty of the things that have been taught. Theophilus was apparently a man of status especially since he is given the term “Most excellent Theophilus.”
When you do something for a person of high status, you usually have thoughts of wanting to impress them, or be seen as a really good worker, do it in a respectful manner, or be seen as the best.
So as I read Luke, I am confident that he was diligent and did a great deal of investigative work to ensure he got his facts straight. I feel pretty confident that the “most excellent Theophilus” was impressed.
How can we carry over into our lives the heart of Luke in our everyday walk with the Lord? Two thoughts:
1. Let this be a challenge to us to be diligent in whatever we do: our jobs, are parenting, our performances, our study, all things.
2. May we have the heart of wanting to please the Lord God over anyone else. And when we have that heart attitude, what happens is, people who are around us will see us as an excellent worker, a person of integrity, a reliable person, a person that we want to have around, and are a role model for others to follow.
Ultimately we’re doing it for the “most excellent Lord God Almighty!” We want to do it for his glory and not anybody else’s. We want to hear him say, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
So look at every aspect of your life and ask yourself, am I doing the best I can with what God has given to me to ensure that my work Is Excellent for the MOST EXCELLENT (Jesus)?
