Read Jonah Chapter 1
Run Towards OBEDIENCE And Not Away From It.
Jonah was in Judah not far from Jerusalem and God called him to go to Nineveh, a great city in Assyria. God told him to cry against the city because of all their wickedness. They were to repent or be destroyed.
The trip to Nineveh was approximately 550 miles but instead, Jonah fled to Tarshish, which was approximately 2,500 miles in the opposite direction. His whole motive was to flee from the presence of the Lord.
Jonah fled to Tarshish on a ship and because of his disobedience God hurled a great wind and storm that came against the ship. When the men on the ship realized Jonah was to blame for their calamity, they were frightened for their lives. Jonah told them to throw him over into the sea and the storm would stop. When they did, the storm stopped and Jonah was swallowed by a fish God sent and he was in the stomach of the fish for 3 days.
If God calls you to a place, then he will be with you. Be obedient to his call. Don’t run from it. It is better to go into a place of Fear With God, than to flee from the place without God. There’s nothing to fear with God. Fear should come when we go someplace without God.
Is God calling you someplace you fear so he can USE YOU to touch lives? Or is God wanting to do something IN YOUR LIFE that you fear or even despise? If God is calling you, then he promises to be with you. Be obedient to his leading no matter how ugly and ridiculous it looks. Let the peace of God guide you and not the fear the devil inflicts upon you. It doesn’t pay to run or hide from God. Be obedient and see what the Lord does. Don’t let fear keep you from a blessing that comes through hardships.
