Part 4 – Is Repentance (Leaving Our Life Of Sin) Really That Important?
The woman who was caught in adultery was placed before a crowd of people. Jesus said let the one who is without sin throw the first stone of condemnation. After saying this, all her accusers walked away. She was left standing by herself. Jesus approached her and said, “Who is left to condemn you?” She said, “No one, sir.” Jesus replied, “Then neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin.” This is a powerful statement!
Jesus is often portrayed as one who loves everyone no matter what. Which is true. But he’s also portrayed as one who doesn’t care if you are living in sin because that’s just the way you were born. And everyone is supposed to accept that about you. But that’s not accurate. In reality, Jesus loves us but he hates sin.
Sin is the very thing that separated us from God to begin with. Sin is the very thing that keeps us from heaven. Sin is the very thing that destroys our soul. Sin is a portrait of our selfishness and love for the things of this world. Sin is the very thing that Jesus died for so our sins could be forgiven. Now we need to make a decision because of that. Do we want to receive this forgiveness? Do we want to spend eternity in heaven or hell? So take heed to Jesus’ words when he said, “Go and leave your life of sin.” In other words repent and be saved through faith in Jesus. It was Jesus who said in Luke 13:1-5, repent and be saved because Jesus hates sin and he wants us to hate it also. I mean hate it like you’ve never hated anything before. You hate it so much, you’ll do whatever you have to in order to leave any temptations that we are trapped in. What lusts of your eyes or flesh have captivated you. What addictions are running your life? What are you willing to do? What are you willing to give up in order to leave this life of sin. Let the Holy Spirit empower you to do the very thing Jesus is asking us to do: Leave Our Life Of Sin.
