Have You Eaten the flesh of Jesus, and Drank His Blood … Metaphorically?
Jesus continues to speak to many people, including those who experienced his miracle when he fed thousands with a little bread and a little fish. He’s trying to explain that he is the Son of God, the Messiah. He’s the chosen one that came down from heaven. Their minds are fixated on physical bread and Jesus speaks to them metaphorically about how he is the bread of life and whoever eats his flesh and drinks his blood will have eternal life. But if they don’t, they can have no part of him. None of this makes any sense to their ears and even to his disciples. It caused an uproar because they were blinded to the fact that he was talking metaphorically. They’re blinded to the fact that he is the Son of God that came down from heaven.
To eat the flesh of Jesus is to accept the punishment that he took upon himself for us. To drink his blood is to accept the atonement, the sacrifice he made at the cross for the Forgiveness of our sins. This is what brings eternal life.
It had to be frustrating for Jesus as he tried to explain TRUTH and the people just didn’t get it, including his closest followers.
Do you know anyone who just can’t accept the teachings of Jesus? They may not believe in him at all, or they believe in him but just can’t accept his teachings. You live the life of Christ in front of them. You have had discussions about your faith, but they just don’t get it. Sadly, Paul said in 1st Corinthians 1:18, “For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing. But to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.” It can be frustrating for us and you may wonder why they can’t see the “obvious truth.” But don’t quickly forget, when we were lost in sin, how we struggled at first to accept the teachings of Jesus.
So in you’re frustration, keep praying for the Lost and keep being Christ’s representative in your words and in your actions. Pray that one day they will find Christ and begin to eat of his flesh and drink of his blood. Never give up. God never gave up on us. Keep praying and keep being a light for Jesus.
