Read John 6:1-15
It’s Literally IMPOSSIBLE!
Jesus traveled to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee. He and his disciples sat on a mountainside and from where they sat they could see a great crowd of people coming toward them. So Jesus asked Philip a question, “Where shall we buy food for these people to eat?” Jesus asked him the question only to test Philip because Jesus already had a plan for what he was going to do.
The question was OVERWHELMING and seemingly STUPID and certainly IMPOSSIBLE. Philip could see that to buy enough food even for each person to have one bite of bread, would cost at least a half year’s wages. Peter and Andrew were more proactive and evaluated what resources they had in order to take care of the impossible. They found a boy with five small loaves of bread and two small fish. Obviously, there weren’t enough resources available to take care of the IMPOSSIBLE. However, Jesus took what little they had before the Lord, gave thanks for what little they had, and asked for God’s blessing. As a result, they had enough food to feed 5,000 men, along with all the women and children.
As you read this devotional, maybe Jesus is asking you a question: “What are you going to do about your current situation?” He’s testing you because he already has a plan for your situation.
1. Are you like Philip thinking of the IMPOSSIBLE? In fact that’s where you live everyday is in the IMPOSSIBLE.
2. Maybe you’re like Peter and Andrew and you evaluated your situation and found all the resources you have to utilize for your IMPOSSIBLE situation. And what you found is a far cry short of what is necessary.
3. Are you like the boy who had the five loaves and two fishes, and gave what he had to Jesus?
4. Let Jesus take what resources you have and give thanks for them.
Then trust that Jesus will do a miracle in carrying out the plan that he has. And in its fulfillment you won’t be saying, “That was stupid!”
Jesus, you see what situation I’m in and what consumes my mind. I see what resources I have and admit fear only lets me see the IMPOSSIBLE. I surrender to you and say THANK YOU for what you can do and I trust you for a miracle in your due time. Help me to be faithful to your calling and trust you with what little I have to fulfill each need necessary in order to fulfill your plan. In Jesus name, Amen!
