Read John 5:24-30
Wake up call. Are You Listening?
Jesus talks about eternal life so let’s pause for a moment and listen to what he has to say. It’s not a game. It is literally a matter of life and death. It’s a life commitment. It’s surrendering of one’s will and desires for God’s Will and Desires. It’s being willing to give up any and everything for the Lord. It’s willing to go places you never imagined. It’s going out of one’s comfort zone to do the call of God. It’s standing up for the truth when you’re surrounded by hecklers, persecutors, and thousands of people in opposition. It’s more than just saying, “I Believe.”
Jesus started with two very strong words, “Very Truly….” These two words mean we’re to listen VERY CAREFULLY!!! Because what he’s about to say is VERY TRUE. It is authoritative. Very reliable and worth listening to with all your heart. Hear the words that he said after saying, “Very truly I tell you.”
1. Whoever hears my Words (are you listening?).
2. And believes in my Father who sent me, has eternal life.
3. The one who believes will not face God’s judgment carried out by his Son.
4. Such belief enables one to go over from death to life.
5. Sadly, not everyone will hear the voice of God and live this life.
6. Such belief results into a changed life. There’s a transformation. It involves repentance of sin into a new life.
Jesus said don’t be amazed at all I said and he hopes you are still listening because one day, while people are in their graves, they will hear the Son of God’s voice and come out of the graves.
1. Those whose lives changed from evil to good will live forever in heaven.
2. But those who did not repent and lived for self, resulting in evil, will rise to be condemned. They will face a judgment that will be fair. They will be separated from God forever.
I hope you’re listening because when I read these words, VERY TRULY, I am humbled and have a fear of the Lord. It’s a wake-up call. Lord forgive me of my sins and help me to walk in holiness, repenting of my sins.
