Is my faith Based On God’s Word? Or On My Circumstances?
After 2 days ministering in Samaria, Jesus left for Galilee. When he arrived the people welcomed him because they remembered the work that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival and at Cana when he turned water into wine. The people were excited to see Jesus because of his power but didn’t yet truly understand his divinity.
Jesus stopped in Cana and a certain Royal official came to him because he had a son who was sick and dying in Capernaum. The man begged Jesus to come and heal his son who was close to death. Jesus confronted the man and people of Galilee that, unless they see a miracle, they won’t believe. Jesus is calling them into a Faith based upon, not a miracle, but on his words alone. If Jesus says it, then it can be trusted and believed. So when the man said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” Jesus responded, “Go, your son will live.” Jesus wanted the man to believe in his words, and not just in the miracle itself. He wanted the man to recognize that he had the power of God to speak the word and his words can be trusted. It says, “That the man took Jesus at his word and departed,” versus focusing on his circumstances.
When the man was on his way home, his servants met him and said, “Your son is healed!” And it happened at the same time Jesus said, “Your son will live.” As a result, the man and his household believed in Jesus!
Do you believe Jesus because of his word when it says he will take care of our needs and he will never leave us nor forsake us? Or are you always overwhelmed by your circumstances? Lord, help me have a faith that goes beyond all my circumstances. Help me to trust your words for my life.
