Read John 4:31-38
Planting and Harvesting … This is God’s Will For Us.
While Jesus is still at Jacob’s Well in Sychar, his disciples come from town with food they purchased. Jesus just finished witnessing to the Samaritan woman at the well who has just returned to town with excitement to share with the town about going to see Jesus the Messiah. While she’s gone, the disciples urged Jesus to eat something. Jesus used this as an opportunity to talk about spiritual food and he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” He explains that his food is “to do the will of God who sent me and to finish his work.”
God’s will is for us to see the world around us as a field in need of a Savior. Jesus says the harvest field is ripe NOW for salvation so what are we waiting for? Someone has to plant the seed of the Gospel to those around us, while another will one day reap a harvest of people who will receive Jesus as their Savior. One day God may use us to plant the seed, and another day he’ll use us to pray with someone to receive Jesus.
Does planting the seed of Jesus scare you? Does harvesting souls unto salvation scare you? Does it seem like a foreign idea to you? It shouldn’t because this is why we exist. This is God’s will for all believers and followers of Christ: plant seeds of Jesus and reap souls unto salvation.
Who are you? What’s your current status? Do you have a job or are you going to school someplace? Are you retired? Whatever your current status is, it is God’s will for you to utilize every opportunity to point people to Jesus. People are lost and hurting and looking for Hope for their lives. The answer to this search of Hope is a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
When is the last time God used you to plant a seed or harvest a soul unto salvation? If you can’t think of the last time that happened, then GREAT, LET’S START TODAY to follow God’s will in this area of planting and harvesting. God’s Spirit will lead the way!
