Where is God’s Divine Appointment For You Today?
Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard he was baptizing more disciples than John. In order to avoid premature conflict with the Pharisees, since it wasn’t his time yet, Jesus departed from Judea to Galilee.
Vs 4 says, “Jesus HAD to go through Samaria….” Why does it say, “He Had To Go Through Samaria” because in reality, he didn’t have to! I mean, the shortest path between Judea and Galilee is to go through Samaria. However, because there was so much hatred between Samaritans and Jews, the Jews often went the long way around Samaria. So why does it say, “He Had to”? Because Jesus had a Divine appointment to minister to a Samaritan woman who needed Jesus.
Everyday we get to experience Divine appointments set up by the Lord. The sad thing is, not all Divine appointments are mountaintop experiences. Oftentimes, unexpected broken routines occur putting us in a position where we are forced to go and do something we weren’t expecting. We end up doing something God had planned versus doing what we had planned. This is called Divine appointments!
One morning I was driving to work at the church and my routine route was blocked off because of road repairs. I had to go a long way to my destination. I was in a hurry and the long way was going to make me “late!” I was whining and complaining to myself as I was driving. However, on my way, I saw one of the youth from our church standing outside his house waiting for his ride to school. He looked distraught, so I stopped to talk to him. As a result, I had a chance to pray with the youth and encourage him in his given circumstances.
When our routines are broken or we end up someplace we weren’t planning or expecting, instead of whining and complaining, let’s ask God to show what divine appointment he has for us. He may want to use us in meeting a need. He may want to stretch our faith. He may want to test us for spiritual growth. Whatever the reason, let’s look not so intently on our schedule but be open to God’s schedule.
