Read John 3:31-36
Who is your Authority? Don’t tell me. Show me!
John is still having a conversation with his disciples on why Jesus must increase and he, John, must decrease. John says,
1. Vs 31: “Jesus, who comes from above, is above all.” Jesus has the ultimate Authority and speaks with ultimate truth.
2. Vs 31: “John, who comes from the earth, belongs to the Earth and speaks as one from the Earth.” John’s wisdom is limited for he is not God but a created human being.
3. Vs 32: Jesus, who comes from heaven, he testifies what he has seen and heard from his Father in Heaven, yet no one accepts his testimony.
4. Vs 33: But those who do accept his testimony have certified that God is truthful. “Certified” means it is sealed in your heart.
5. Vs 34-35: Jesus, who came from heaven, was sent by God from Heaven, is God’s Son, and has God’s Holy Spirit without limit so everything he speaks is truthful.
6. Vs 36: So whoever believes in the Son, the one with authority, has eternal life. But whoever rejects the Son of God, who takes away the sins of the world, will not have eternal life in heaven because God’s wrath remains on them.
When we come into this world, we have God’s wrath already on us because we have been born in sin. The only way to remove God’s wrath is to receive by faith God’s forgiveness of sins through the work of his Son Jesus.
By whose authority do you live by? Yours? The Culture you live in? The Authority of Jesus? The things we make time for are the things that give evidence of whose authority we live by. So I do not want to tell you by whose authority I live by. I want to show you with my life who my Authority really is. My words will mean nothing if my behavior, actions, and choices don’t back up my words. Who is your Authority? Don’t tell me. Show me!
