Read John 3:19-21
What Makes You Feel Uncomfortable?
Jesus concludes his conversation with Nicodemus by saying, “This is the verdict.” What Jesus means is, what he is about to say is a Divine Ruling as it relates to all humankind. The verdict is, if you’re walking in the light then you are walking with Christ. If you’re walking in darkness then you’re walking in sin.
Jesus said, “Light has come into the world.” Jesus is the light that has come into the world and overcomes darkness and evil. Jesus is the Hope for all humankind. We get to choose whether to live in the light of Christ or live in darkness/evil/sin.
Those who choose to live in darkness do so because they love evil. They will refuse to pursue the Light of Christ because in doing so, their evil will be exposed, and they don’t want that to happen.
Having one’s sin exposed means you are directly confronted with your sin or evil actions. And once you are confronted you have to make a choice:
1. Stop and turn to the light – repent. Or
2. Keep living in the darkness.
Being confronted can be very uncomfortable and so people will often avoid all aspects of being confronted. That’s why many people avoid church, the Bible, or certain Christians.
Now, to walk in the light is to walk in the Truth of Christ. It says that when you are walking in the truth then people can PLAINLY see that what you do is done in the sight of God. It is PLAIN to see that you walk a different life. It’s noticeable. It’s set apart from the darkness / the world / the flesh. People know the difference.
So what makes you uncomfortable? Are you uncomfortable when you are around those walking in darkness because you see the evil they are doing and you don’t want to be associated with such behaviors? OR
Are you uncomfortable when you are around Christ followers because their lifestyle convicts you of your sin and exposes your heart that you are on the wrong path?
