What Tables Need Turned Over In My Life?
When it was almost time to celebrate Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple court, the place for prayer, Jesus saw people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others exchanging money at tables. In response, Jesus made a whip out of cords and drove out all of the animals and people, and even flipped over their tables.
The Jews responded by asking, “What signs can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this Temple, and I will raise it again in 3 days.” Jesus was referring to his body, but the Jews thought he was talking about the temple building and they assumed Jesus to be a lunatic.
While Jesus was in Jerusalem he did many signs and miracles that gave evidence of his authority resulting in many believing in him. However Jesus knew in their hearts that they weren’t changed. They believed in him but were not ready to surrender everything to him.
What does Jesus want to change in your life? What thoughts and behaviors does he want to “flip over” and confront head on so that you are walking in holiness? Being aware of sin is a great first step. But turning from sin is the hard part. It requires an out right commitment and surrender of our desires and will so that we are following Jesus in fullness. A sloppy Faith results in Jesus not entrusting us with his work or calling.
God, I surrender all my thoughts and sins to you. Forgive me when I justify my sin and hold on to them. Help me to walk in holiness even if it means walking away from a certain environment and certain toxic relationships. In Jesus name, amen.
