Do You Love Your Family?
As Jesus hung on the cross, his mother Mary, Mary’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene all stood near Jesus. When Jesus saw his mother and John, his disciple, standing there, he said, “Mother, here’s your son.” And he said to John his disciple, “John, here’s your mother.” It says, “From that time on, John took Mary into his home.”
In 1st Timothy 5, it says we have an obligation to take care of our family members, especially the older ones. Here’s Jesus, on the cross, dying but He makes sure his mother is going to be taken care of. He had a lot on his mind as he hung on the cross but he made sure he thought of his mother.
For some of us, our parents have already passed away. But, as I grew up into my teens and older, I was often “too busy” to visit my grandmother. Something I regret. But I did better with my parents in their final years.
Do you have unresolved issues with a family member? A brother, sister, mom, dad, step parent, grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc.? Don’t let this problem be taken to the grave. Do what you can on your part to make amends. Let Jesus rekindle the relationship with love and forgiveness. Don’t wait for the “other person” to make the first move. You be the “bigger” person who takes the first move. I’ve seen broken relationships taken to the grave followed by great regrets. Don’t be one of them.
Dear Lord, I pray against any broken relationships in our families. I pray for your Holy Spirit to lead us into restoration with our loved ones. Let your Holy Spirit prepare hearts for healing, love, and forgiveness. Do a miracle today in Jesus name, Amen!
