Read John 18:1-9
No One Can Stand Against The Great I AM!
Jesus, with his 11 disciples, went to the garden where he was accustomed to go. Later, Judas came to the garden with a detachment of soldiers and some Jewish officials. Jesus knew what was to happen so he went out and asked, “Who is it you want?” They answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus replied, “I AM HE.” The soldiers drew back and fell to the ground.
A whole detachment of soldiers means there were anywhere between 200 and 600 soldiers sent out to arrest Jesus. Did they send that many out of fear or did they send that many so they could send a message that the Romans are not to be messed with. They meant business and they weren’t going to be intimidated by him and his 11 disciples.
Whatever the reason, when the soldier said they were looking for Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus responded with the most powerful words, “I AM” He.
The Greek words for “they drew back and fell to the ground” means they withdrew because of a sudden forced retreat. In other words, the soldiers didn’t just step back, they were overwhelmed by a Divine Force resulting in them falling to the ground. When Jesus said I AM HE, he wasn’t just proclaiming his name Jesus but with proclaiming the name of the Great I Am.
It doesn’t matter how many soldiers the devil brings to us, the name of Jesus cannot be stopped. It was God’s will for Jesus to be arrested, but they got to see his power was greater than theirs. Psalms 3:6 says, “I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.” We have the matchless name of Jesus and we do not need to fear how big and ugly the enemy looks. We have the name we get to carry within us and that is the name every knee will bow to if not on Earth then in Heaven.
What are you going through? Jesus is with you. It may get ugly but you have the Great I Am with you and he will get you through. Press on! Persevere! Don’t give up! Trust God!
