Read John 17:6-8
Do I Really Believe With Certainty?
Jesus prays for his disciples and the same principles he spoke to God for them are the same principles we can apply for us.
1. Jesus said, “I have revealed myself to them whom you have given me.” Jesus is referring to his disciples, his followers. If we are followers then we have the same Joy of knowing Jesus will reveal himself to us. Do you see how much that gives me / us peace? We have challenges all the time and we need the Holy Spirit to reveal himself to us in order to keep us moving forward with our faith walk.
2. Jesus said, “They have obeyed your word.” As followers of Christ we have an obligation to follow with obedience his words. Obeying God’s word and walking in obedience is not an option. If we aren’t growing and moving forward with our faith, then we are going backwards. Obedience is an ongoing battle because the devil will do all he can to discourage us with our faith walk.
3. Jesus said, “I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them.” God’s Word is truth and will always be the truth. In Matthew 24:35 Jesus said, “Heaven and Earth will pass away but my words will never pass away.” God’s Word is true and can’t be altered by anyone including our culture. Sadly, our culture has a powerful influence on pastors and teachers of God’s word. They adapt God’s word to fit with our society versus living out God’s word and Truth regardless what anyone or any culture says.
4. Jesus said, “They know with certainty that I came from you and they believed that you sent me.” I hate for us to read these words without really stopping and asking ourselves, “What does it really mean to know with certainty that Jesus came from God? And what does it really mean to believe that God sent Jesus? If I really believed these two statements, then my life would be changed drastically. You wouldn’t be able to stop my pursuit of God or stop my love to live and evangelize this world. Jesus said, as God sent me into the world so I have sent God’s people into the world.
So what fruit is being produced in and through my life because of believing with certainty who God and Jesus really are?
