Read John 17:24a
I Love Hide-N-Seek.
Jesus prays to God saying, “I want those you have given to me to be with me where I am.” Have you ever played Hide-N-Seek? I have. In fact, I still do with my grandkids. If you’re like me, you want the best spot because the last one found is the winner. And I like to win! That same attitude is the attitude I have when it comes to my walk with Christ. I want to win and in order to win, I have to find the best spot. And the best spot is where Jesus is.
In order for that to happen we must be willing to go where Jesus calls us. That means we may have to make sacrifices. We may have to be willing to sell our home and pack our bags to a place we never heard of. It may mean quitting our job and pursuing a different Ministry or career. It may mean breaking up with your boy or girlfriend because God’s calling you both in different directions. It may mean quit hanging out with relationships that are toxic to your spiritual walk. It may even mean taking a road that is hard and difficult. The good news is, Jesus will always be with us and help us through every bumpy road.
There have been several “bumpy roads” in my life that I didn’t particularly like but it’s where God wanted me. And it’s during these times that I found my most growth in my spiritual walk. For example:
1. Three and a half years of my four years of college felt like “hell.” There were several challenges which meant I made several mistakes along the way. But when I got through it I could see how God used it to transform me from a boy into a man.
2. I ran a camp and retreat center for 4 years. I love camp Ministry but I didn’t like running a camp. For 4 years I did this and God brought to light some of my weaknesses, or should I say, my imperfections. I hated having my weaknesses exposed before others. But I grew and became a better communicator and worker in Ministry.
The best path to travel is the one Jesus is on. Follow him wherever he takes you, even if it looks difficult because it’s those times that he perfects you and makes you more like Jesus so you can impact more lives for Jesus.
