Read John 17: 1-5
The Hour Has Come.
After Jesus declared to his disciples that he would be leaving back to his Father, he gave a prayer while looking to heaven. He said, “Father, the hour has come.” Jesus is referring to his crucifixion, death, and Resurrection.
He continued by saying, “Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.” Jesus is referring to him finishing the call God had on his life to bring glory to his name. Jesus is referring to how he will be providing the means for eternal life for all who receive, believe, repent and follow.
His final words in his prayer are, “Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” Jesus is referring to his deity in heaven that he had before humbling himself as a man. Now he returns to heaven with all authority and power and it’s available to us.
“THE HOUR HAS COME!” Jesus was called by God for a purpose and he is calling each and every one of us for a purpose. For Jesus, his hour was for finishing his father’s work. But for us it may be to start our ministry, or start a new ministry. It may be the hour for healing in our lives because of past hurts and struggles. Your hour might be the call to evangelism. What is your hour that has come?
“GLORIFY ME.” Jesus wanted his Father to glorify him so he could glorify his Father. My prayer is that God will glorify himself through me. I want to shine the Light of Christ and see lives impacted for him.
“GLORIFY ME IN YOUR PRESENCE.” Just as Jesus was referring to his returned DEITY, he promised us followers that we would receive all his Authority and Power in order to do and finish the work he has for us.
