Read John 16:28-33
When Was Your AHA Moment?
Jesus’s disciples struggled in figuring out what Jesus was saying, but after Jesus said in verse 28, “I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.” It was then the disciple said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”
This was the disciples’ AHA Moment! When Jesus spoke metaphorically they didn’t understand and wanted to ask him questions. Jesus saw that they wanted to ask questions and wanted clarity so he spoke words that they could understand. He spoke with clarity and even answered the question they never asked but wanted to. The disciples were amazed at the fact that he knew what they were thinking, and was amazed at the fact that he said he came from God and was returning to God his Father.
They were adamant to say that they NOW believe. No sooner did they say they now believe that Jesus prophesied that they would soon abandon him out of fear. Even when he would be abandoned he said he would not be alone because his Father would be with him. It’s important for us to take heed to these wise words of Jesus. When we feel abandoned God declares his Holy Spirit is still with us and going through every hardship and helps us through it. The good news is: in his presence he wants us to experience his peace because he’s with us and he’s in control. In fact, he even says, “You will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.”
1. What was your AHA MOMENT when you believed? For me, it was when I was 8 years old at our little church listening to an evangelist speak.
2. What fear or obstacles trigger your heart to quit pursuing God? For me, it’s not so much that I quit pursuing God, but I find myself questioning him when we are struggling with our finances.
3. We can experience God’s peace when we trust he’s in control even through the worst circumstances. So may we all take heart because Jesus has overcome all the works of the enemy.
