Read John 15:18-21
Get Used To It!
As I read these verses I got a better picture of what it means to be a Disciple of Jesus.
1. You’ll be hated by the world. Jesus said that even though he was the Son of God people hated him. Therefore, people will hate you for your faith in Jesus. So get used to it. Get used to the idea that there will be people who will hate you for your faith. You can’t get away from it.
2. You’re not to be of this world. To be of the world is to be in opposition to Jesus. That is why Jesus said I have chosen you out of this world. We can’t let ourselves fall to peer pressure. It is essential that we stand up for God’s word even though it opposes the worldly, godless standards. So get used to it. Get used to the idea that the worldly standards are in opposition to the standards of God. Don’t get sucked into this world.
3. You will be persecuted. Jesus makes it very clear when he said “If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.” So get used to it. If you want to live a Godly life in Christ Jesus, you will be persecuted. You can’t get away from it.
4. You will be teachers of God’s word. We can teach God’s word to others through both our actions and words. But listen, it must be taught with love and truth. It cannot be watered down. It can’t be altered so you have more people coming to your church or more people liking you. You teach it with love and no compromise. That way if somebody comes to Faith, their faith won’t be watered down or compromised. Get used to the idea that God’s word can never be compromised, no matter what. Sloppy teachings produce sloppy Christians. Don’t be a part of it.
