Read John 14:15-16
Don’t Tell Me You Love Jesus. Just Show Me.
Jesus said, “If you love me, you’ll keep my commands.” This is a powerful statement. We can talk about “believing” in Jesus and how important it is. Oftentimes a belief has no call to action. People rest in the words of “belief” yet their hearts can be far from God.
I believe in hunting deer but I also love hunting deer. So when deer season comes, I’m out hunting deer. I save vacation days for deer season. I’m talking about it. I have excitement about it. I get up early so I can eat and get organized. I have a game plan where and when I’m going, and exactly what I’m going to wear. I’ve already cited my rifle in before the season started. I start early in the morning and stay out to the very end each day I can hunt. I have a passion for hunting. So if you ask me, “Do you love hunting,” and I say, “Yes, I love hunting,” then you know it’s not just mere words. My actions back up my words and my heart is in it 100%.
So when Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands,” then let’s put all our heart and soul into it, 100%. Let’s see your passion and drive. I’m getting up early every morning so I can start the day with praise, prayer, and reading, studying, and memorizing Scripture. I look at my spouse as my number one Ministry and strive to love and encourage her before we part ways to our jobs. Do I set myself apart from the world demands and focus on what Christ and his word is calling me too? Am I striving to be all that I can be for Jesus in living a holy life along with loving people and meeting their needs? Is my life set apart from the world so much so that people don’t have to ask if I love Jesus because they will already know?
Am I perfect at it? No! It’s hard but that’s why Jesus said in verse 16 that he himself will ask his father to give us the Holy Spirit who will help us, empower us and be with us forever. I can’t live the Christian Life on my own. I fail every time. I need to yield and surrender to the spirit every day to help me to be Christlike to the world around me.
If somebody asks you today if you believe in Jesus or if you love Jesus, you can say yes if you want to. And if you do say yes, don’t just say it but show it.
