Read John 14: 26
The Holy Spirit is ALWAYS by our Side!
In John 14:26, the Greek word “παράκλητος (paraklētos)” has been translated as “Advocate,” “Helper,” “Comforter,” or “Counselor” in various versions of the Bible. I have been intrigued with this word because it’s talking about the Holy Spirit in our lives. So for the next few days I’m going to look at different aspects of what this word means for our lives.
The word literally translates to “one called to the side of another.”
I remember my wife and I bought an old house for $13,000. It was a wreck but we wanted to fix it up.
I had my friend Dan come and look at the house with us because he was a carpenter. He looked at the house with us and had a vision of what could be done. It would take a lot of work but I was open to the challenge. He said he would help me. That was exciting to hear but didn’t really know how realistic he could be there that much.
I worked very hard on the house and faced a lot of challenges and frustrations. Dan was there a lot. I remember working there one night feeling so overwhelmed. And as I got started, I remember feeling discouraged. After a little while Dan showed up ready to work. His presence by my side was so encouraging and uplifting. I can’t describe how his presence by my side changed everything. It changed my frustration to Hope. it changed my whole demeanor, my attitude, and my whole outlook. It lifted my spirit.
The emotions I experienced when Dan walked in the door smiling and ready to go is the type of emotion and feeling we can have every day knowing that when we wake up and head to a task that seems overwhelming, that the Holy Spirit is already by our side, ready to go, ready to work, ready to get things done in our lives and through our lives.
God promises that he will never leave us nor forsake us. He will ALWAYS be by our side. God the creator of all things, the power and authority over all things, promises to be by our side to go through every trial and tribulation in order to give us hope and help us to be like him. Never forget that he’s ALWAYS by your side!
